18m Telehandler: HX4018 / HX5018 / HX6018

When a job demands both height and reach, Hixen Machinery’s 18-metre telehandler range delivers. The HX4018, HX5018 and HX6018 combine an 18 m maximum lift height with rated capacities from 4,000 kg to 6,000 kg — giving contractors, industrial operators and rental fleets a single machine capable of handling nearly any lifting challenge on site.

An 18m telehandler is a telescopic handler engineered to place loads at height across extended horizontal distances. Unlike a conventional forklift, the variable-geometry boom extends both upward and outward simultaneously, making it indispensable for tasks such as placing precast concrete panels, loading high-bay racking, servicing wind turbine foundations and topping out multi-storey structural steel frames.

18m Telehandler Model Range

Hixen Machinery offers three models in the 18 m class. Each shares the same 18-metre lift height and forward reach geometry; the key variable is rated payload capacity.

All three models ship with CE / UKCA certification and are available for global export with ISOWeld structural frames and Tier 4 Final / Stage V compliant engines.

Why Choose an 18-Metre Telehandler?

The 18 m lift height sits at an important inflection point in telehandler design. It is tall enough to service the uppermost floors of a five- to six-storey structure or to reach over the eaves of a large industrial building, yet compact enough to travel on standard road trailers without special-transport permits in most markets.

  • Greater vertical reach than compact telehandlers (typically 6–12 m) without the cost and complexity of a large crane
  • Horizontal outreach allows placement of loads away from the boom centreline — useful where ground conditions restrict machine positioning
  • Four-wheel drive and multi-mode steering deliver performance on unprepared ground, mud and gravel sites
  • A wide range of attachments — pallet forks, crane jibs, man baskets, concrete kibbles, compactor plates — extend versatility far beyond a conventional forklift
  • Lower total-cost-of-ownership compared to crane hire for repetitive lifts of 2–6 tonnes at 10–18 m height

FAQ

An 18m telehandler — also called an 18-metre telescopic handler — is a rough-terrain lift truck with a multi-section extending boom that reaches a maximum height of 18 metres (approximately 59 feet). The boom also extends horizontally, providing forward reach of up to around 13.5 m, allowing operators to place loads at height and at a distance from the machine’s centre of gravity without repositioning.

Rated lift capacity at maximum boom extension varies by model. Hixen Machinery’s 18 m range covers 4,000 kg (HX4018), 5,000 kg (HX5018) and 6,000 kg (HX6018). Note that rated capacity decreases as forward reach increases — always refer to the load chart supplied with the specific machine.

All three models share a common 18 m maximum lift height and similar forward reach geometry. The key difference is rated payload capacity: 4 tonnes (HX4018), 5 tonnes (HX5018) and 6 tonnes (HX6018). The heavier-capacity models feature a wider wheelbase, larger tyres and reinforced counterweight system to handle the additional load safely.

Yes, subject to compliance with local regulations. Hixen 18 m telehandlers support certified work platforms when fitted with the appropriate mechanical locking device and provided the operator holds valid IPAF/PASMA certification (or regional equivalent). Platforms must be CE-marked for aerial work with telehandlers. Always consult your local health and safety authority for specific requirements.

In most jurisdictions, 18 m telehandlers fall within standard overwidth/overheight travel limits and can be transported on standard low-loaders. However, machine dimensions, axle loads and travel speeds must be checked against local road traffic regulations. Hixen can supply full dimension and weight data sheets to assist with transport planning.

All current HX4018, HX5018 and HX6018 models are fitted with EU Stage V / EPA Tier 4 Final compliant diesel engines. This meets emission requirements for construction sites in the EU, UK, USA, Canada and most other major markets.

Hixen Machinery manufactures and exports telehandlers globally. Please contact our sales team for lead times, shipping terms (FOB/CIF) and availability in your region.
